Important sculpture in finely chiseled gilt bronze from the late 19th century signed E. Drouot (Edouard DROUOT 1859-1945) subject bearing the mention "Medalist at the salon" and titled "Mentem Luminat" featuring a young woman educating a young boy, she holds a parchment annotated "Education is the seed of progress and the strength of peoples" monogrammed quote "CH. D" The whole rests on a sea-green marble terrace. Good general condition, to note wear to the gilding . Dimensions: 80cm high X 44cm wide X 30cm deep. Edouard Drouot: Painter sculptor of mythological subjects, typical scenes, animals, orientalist. He was a pupil of Emile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. From 1889 he exhibited at the Salon then at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, he devoted most of his work to sculpture, producing subjects of a mythological order and some typical subjects taken from his Indian or Tuareg travels. . A vast repertoire, varied themes, a sense of movement and expression make DROUOT a prominent figure in French sculpture at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
