Still life with the elephant, oil on aglomere panel, mounted under a wooden candre covered with silver leaves under a red bolus, André Paternot (1894-1968), 1920, dated and signed in the lower left corner. Frame dimensions: H. 38.5 x L. 46.5 x D. 2.5 cm; panel: H. 28 x L. 35.5 cm. André Paternot (Brussels 1894 - Dilbeek 1968). Painter of landscapes and still lifes. Also xylograph. Self-taught. Founding member of the Belgian Xylographers Association. Takes part in exhibitions from 1928 to 1933. Destroys a large part of his work, while conserving a "Museum" of selected works. Publishes two collections of large plates: In Brabant and In Flanders. Teacher at the Charles Buls Normal School in Brussels.
