In 1891, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and made his debut at the Salon (both in Lyon).
He worked under the guidance of Ernest Zacharie (1849-1915) and Jean-Baptiste Poncet (1827-1901).
He was awarded a first-class medal in 1889 and exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1904, with an honorable mention to follow in 1909.
At the time, Bonnardel had been teaching life drawing at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon since 1900. He died in 1942.
