"Jester Kneeling On A Sphere, Bronze Germany 15th Century"
Bronze door hammer. This patinated bronze door knocker or hammer is decorated with a jester figure resting one knee on a sphere. He wears a pair of shoes with a foal, recognizable by their long toe, typical of this period of the Middle Ages. Our jester is in a grotesque and joyful position (between juggling and theatrical comedy). This pretty little bronze located at the crossroads between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period is reminiscent of the bronze from the workshop of Peter Vischer in Nuremberg which was in operation between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century.
