Having become one of the most important painters of the first third of the 19th century, Guérin also led a highly sought-after workshop in which he trained a large number of artists, including Delacroix and Géricault.
Guérin was born on March 13, 1774 in Paris and died in Rome on July 16, 1833. He was, at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the following century, a brilliant artist whose work can be compared to that of David. When he died in 1833, the painter bequeathed some of his works to some of his most loyal students.
Les toiles de Pierre Narcisse Guérin sont au Musée du Louvre, de Valencienne, Meudon, Guéret
Julien Potier was entrusted by the master with the execution of his will, with the task of sharing among his students the works that remained in his possession.
Unsigned canvas with on the back on the stretcher the inscription Pierre Narcisse Guérin 1801 (if we take this dating the canvas could be from Guérin) - On the other hand the canvas bears the date 1881 at the bottom right which proves that it comes from his workshop since Pierre Narcisse Guérin died in 1833 - An address also on the chassis: 66 rue des gazonette -
There remains before our eyes an exceptional piece, of great maturity in the mastery of chiaroscuro, skin tones, eyes feverish of the model - Canvas later rented and restored by our workshop just for the funds - PERFECT CONDITION
