Rare and splendid Persian Tafresh rug from the second half of the 19th century, from Iran, in wool, measuring 122 cm wide by 202 cm long. Uncommon are these magnificent rugs knotted in Tafresh, a small Iranian town, near Arak.
This type of carpet is peculiar, much happier in decor and nuances than those knotted in the neighboring sectors of the district of Hamadan.
The weft of these pieces is simple, we can see on the back the two loops forming the knot.
The main characteristic of these carpets, which are quite rare on the market or not very common, is this large medallion that they display in the center of their field.
Our model is adorned with this orange-red medallion, offset on the almost salmon-pink field, set by four beautifully effected midnight blue spandrels, surrounded by a decoration of stylized branches and posed birds.
A striking contrast, of a wool blend with a little silk, shiny and fine, which gives it a thickness of 3 to 4 mm.
The borders have a superb bronze sheen or stylized flowers are set in a row spaced by flowery branches.
Slight wear covers the whole of this superb carpet, superb to look at.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
