Jacob Georges Alphonse: Office armchair with revolving seat, circa 1830.
Note: if you have followed me for a long time or have just discovered me, I must point out that I rarely stray towards Restoration period furniture, however, the beautiful aesthetics of this armchair captured my eye / attention and this is the reason why I present it to you in my shop, among my finely sorted selection.
Magnificent office armchair with revolving seat attributed to Georges Alphonse Jacob Desmalter (1799-1870), successor and son of François Honoré Jacob Desmalter, grandson of the great Georges Jacob. It has a large enveloping backrest lined with leather supported by four arabesque armrests. The seat has a belt punctuated with square geometric shapes at the connection of the feet and rests on four feet with octagonal sides ending in a ball.
Georges Alphonse was one of the main suppliers of the Garde-Meuble to the Crown under Charles X and Louis Philippe.
An identical armchair, stamped Jacob (stamp of Georges Alphonse Jacob Desmalter) is preserved in the national furniture (see image).
This beautiful walnut armchair is in excellent condition, the seat upholstery restored, covered with very good quality black leather.
