"Sainte Catherine In Polychrome Gilded Carved Wood Circa 1520-1530"
Charming Saint Catherine of Alexandria carved in the round from the early 16th century. The Saint is standing, in a slightly swaying attitude. She is represented as a princess, crowned and richly dressed. Her long golden dress, belted at the waist, falls in large pleats at the front. His proud face expresses all his courage and determination in his Christian faith. At his feet, the Emperor Maxentius is represented as a little bearded man who seems overwhelmed by the stature of Saint Catherine.
