"Elegant Flamed Mahogany Dressing Table From Empire Period Grand Luxe Model Attr To "
Large mahogany dressing table and flamed mahogany burl veneer, resting on four column legs terminated by casters and joined by an H spacer. The belt opens with a drawer revealing a writing desk garnished with a blue morocco, gilded with a small iron , a pencil case and two racks for the inkwells as well as two large drawers on each side for the toiletries. The top is embellished with a white Carrara veined marble top with a bowl surmounted by a psyche framed by two columns, topped with chiseled and gilded bronze casseroles. Rich, chiseled and gilded bronze with the original mercury, the original mercury mirror as well as the back of the psyche which has miraculously preserved its period blue silk lining, only the gold braid has been changed. The set is of very high quality and of Parisian production and we can easily attribute this dressing table to the Jacob brothers who produced this type of extremely refined piece of furniture by essentially using solid mahogany, beautiful and well-chiseled bronzes and gilded with mercury and above all, the search for balance. Jacob Frères: The two sons of Georges Jacob, Georges II (1768-1803) and François-Honoré-Georges (1770-1841), join forces in 1796 to take over their father's workshop under the company name and the stamp : "Jacob frères, rue Meslée". The whole has undergone a complete restoration where nothing has been done to the economy, which ultimately allows to have an exceptional result (a big thank you to Mathieu!). It will be exceptional in a bedroom for the lady and her makeup or for collectors of beautiful Empire furniture.
