"Ambrym Flute, Vanuatu Island, 20th Century"
Bamboo engraved with geometric patterns, two intonation holes, end cut in the shape of a stylized fish head. Very good state. Length: 82.8 cm. The instrumentalist's breath vibrates the air column, creating a modulable sound according to the number of blocked intonation holes. Its use can be quite simply entertaining, or in accompaniment of songs or stories. It is also used during funeral rites. The photo of this instrument was reproduced in the exhibition catalog “At the origin of music, Instruments of the World” which took place at the MUB museum in Revel in 2019.
