Although nothing is known about the artist of the present vase, the "Tuerlinckx" of "Thuerelinckx", were a family of wood carvers, turners and instrument makers, active in the Malines area of the Netherlands. The most prominent members of the family were Jean (1753-1827) and his son Corneille (1783-1855).
This exceptional "wunderkammer object" is sold with a bound volume containing some of the plates of L.E. Bergeron's Manual du Tourneur, an instructions manual written for turners in 1816. See plate 42 for a turned wood vase, similar to this vase.
