Large Louis XV wall mounted cartel in wood and Martin varnish * with floral decoration on a green background, finely chiseled gilt bronze ornamentation decorated with birds, arabesques and vegetable scrolls, dial with enamel cartridges with Roman and Arabic numerals signed J. Gudin in Paris, accompanied by his lampshade decorated with a scene with a wolf watching a sheep, vintage late 19th century. This cartel is in good condition and is very decorative due to its large size. We have his pendulum and his key. It works but may need to be revised. A note: the back of the cul-de-lamp has been reinforced, a window is missing on one side, some tiny wear over time, take a look at the photos. * Martin varnish: In 1728, the Martin brothers from Paris developed an imitation of copal-based lacquer, the Martin varnish, intended to compete with lacquers from China and Japan. This varnish, less expensive for the decoration of furniture than the application of lacquer panels, was also used to harmonize furniture with a significant curve, the lacquer panels not supporting being too rounded. Martin varnish created the connection between these panels so that the furniture was visually homogeneous. However, it had its own existence by reproducing and interpreting the works of painters of the time applied to furniture as decoration.
