"Flemish School, 17th Century"
Travelers making stopovers. This painting depicts two travelers stopping at a post house or a farm, in the Flemish countryside, before resuming their journey. We see a man riding a white horse, the second returning to his saddled brown horse. A woman is present in the threshold of the house on the left (and perhaps a child upstairs), as well as a hunting dog and a poultry yard. This painting has been cleaned and some small restorations have been made to it. The painting was done on a parquet floor, which naturally reveals two vertical traces between the three parts of the support. The canvas is neither signed nor dated. Its gilded frame with leaf, in very good condition (a few minor gaps on the sides), is more recent (19th century).
