We are in Normandy, a rowboat comes to meet a sailboat. There are 5 fishermen depicted in action. The artist knew how to give movement and life to the scene through the activity of sailors but also the movement of waves and clouds. Thanks to his removed and fine touch, his sense of detail and a very pretty shades of blue gray which the painter is accustomed to, the marinist Charles Hoguet gives us here a very good quality navy.

Painter and lithographer, Charles Hoguet studied in the studio of the German marine painter Wilhelm August Christian Leopold Krause in Berlin. His favorite fields are marine and landscape painting. In 1839, Hoguet went to Paris to complete his training. On Krause's recommendation, he became a pupil of Eugène Ciceri there. Later, he apprenticed with Eugène Isabey alongside the German painter Eduard Hildebrandt. He regularly participated in the Paris Salon from 1842 to 1853 where he received a gold medal in 1848. He traveled to Belgium, England, Holland and on the Normandy coast and there studied the masters. Charles Hoguet stayed in Berlin again in 1848 and showed great productivity. he painted seascapes, landscapes, views of mills and still lifes. He was a gold medalist at the Berlin Salon in 1859. In 1869, he became a member of the Berlin Academy. Charles Hoguet died on August 4, 1870 in Berlin, his birthplace. Despite his disappearance, five of his works were exhibited in 1906 at the Berlin exhibition.
