Portrait of a lady of quality, who bears resemblances to the princesses of the blood under the reign of Louis XIV, of whom we know of portraits by Pierre Mignard, Pierre Gobert, François de Troy or Nicolas de Largillierre again to quote the best known.
Many portraits were made for royal and princely commissions.
We present there, a large portrait of a woman adorned with pearls, richly dressed in embroidered silk, a muslin stole and a draped coat, seated in ¾ an armchair in gilded wood covered with a blue damask.
She introduces us to her little dog, a little white and black spaniel, who strikes a pose, wisely installed on the knees of her mistress who puts a protective hand on her little companion.
The painting is on its original canvas, the key frame is more recent.
