Donkey desk in amboyna burl veneer framed in rosewood. The top is surrounded by a gilded bronze gallery. It opens with a low-sloping flap revealing two drawers. Ornamentation of gilded bronzes such as falls, hooves, side handles. Stamped Tahan on the lock. Side writing drawer. TAHAN: Cabinetmaker specializing in the manufacture of small pieces of furniture with mechanisms. Based in Paris, he was one of Napoleon III's suppliers. A desk identical to ours is reproduced in Denise Ledoux Lebard's work “The Parisian cabinetmakers their works and their brands”, as having been offered by Napoleon III to Marguerite Bellangé.
