"Rare "caduceus" Lamp Base In Gilded And Patinated Bronze"

Rare "Caduceus" lamp base in gilded and patinated bronze. Probably an old kerosene lamp, today it serves as a desk lamp. Its shell-shaped tank is supported by three Caduceus feet with 2 snakes. On the top of these caduceus are three heads of Mercury with winged petases. On the bottom of each Caduceus is a pair of 2-winged feet shod in spartan. This set rests on a gilded bronze plinth decorated with heart rays and pearls. In the center of the plinth is erected a trident wrapped in a snake. Beautiful and fine carving. Recent shade. Total height with lampshade; 61 cm.
