Beautiful and rare ivory pipe, the furnace with finely carved decoration of a bust and head of a bearded man of oriental character, its base is underlined by an eagle's head, the lid of the furnace is topped with a crescent of Moon.
** Port work of the Dieppe city, XVIIIth Century **
The part ensuring the connection of the furnace to the suction tube is also in richly worked ivory with a pattern of berries, foliage, fruit etc.
The suction tube, octagonal in shape, is made of ebony, the spout in horn of dark color.
This pipe can be considered to be in good condition.
However, there are slits on the upper side parts of the furnace, behind the character's turban; a noticeable slit on the forehead, a tiny lack of the vine leaf at the base of the tube, a small lack at the base of the fretel forming a crescent moon and small chips near the junction of the wooden part and the ivory ( please take a good look at all the very explicit photos).
In conclusion, given its age, this pipe is obviously not in perfect condition but they are really small imperfections which do not detract from the beautyof such an object.
