Beautiful sketch from the first part of the 19th century representing Thetis at Vulcan.

Oil on canvas, in good condition.

According to Homer's Iliad, during the Trojan War, Vulcan receives a visit from Thetis, Achilles' mother, on Olympus: she explains to him that his son lent his weapons to his friend Patroclus and that the latter, killed by Hector, lost them. The goddess therefore comes to ask the blacksmith god to make new ones for her.
