Object description :

"Attributed To André Antoine Ravrio - Impressive Rare Pair Of Early Empire French Candelabra"
These highly decorative and very rare early Empire French candelabra (circa 1800) with five lights depict ‘Victoires‘ or ‘Renomées‘. They relate to theoeuvreof the foremostbronzierof the Empire period André Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814). This pair of French candelabra dates from the early Empire period, most likely circa 1800 during the Consulate period (1799–1804).

These five light Empire candelabra have the shape of figures of a winged Victory draped in the antique style. Her arms are raised, holdingaloft an inverted vase-shaped torch with finely chiseled decorations of flowers and leaves. Further, four branches of light, decorated with masks of Mercury, flank this central light. The elegant Victory, with a garland of roses in her hair, she stands on a sphere carried by lotus leaves. Finally the candelabra are supported by a cylindrical shaft with intricate details, resting on a double square plinth.

The impressive size of the sculpture of the winged Victory (34 cm), almost half the total size of the candelabra, and her elegant appearance are the first things to catch the eye. Also the refined design reminds us of similar remarkable models by Ravrio.

This pair of Empire French Candelabra is in a perfect condition.
