"Set Of Five Cream Lacquered And Rechampis Armchairs Stamped Ciym"
Set of five cream lacquered and gray rechampis armchairs with gendarme hat backrest. The seats are molded and rest on four fluted and rudentée legs surmounted by a connecting thimble decorated with a rosette. Stamped CIYM Louis XVI period Usual restorations, unfurnished H. 88 x L. 56 x D. 49 cm The very mysterious stamp known by the letters CIYM is attached to the carpenter Jean Bellet. Master in 1750, he made good quality and well-proportioned seats according to Pierre Kjellberg (in his work “Le Meubles Français du XVIIIe siècle). These seats are in principle stamped with these letters in addition to its own stamp. Another theory affirms that CIYM would be the stamp of the carpenter Claude Javoy, master in 1779 and established in Nantes. Finally, a third hypothesis states that these would be the marks of a sculptor.
