Bust portrait of a young woman wearing a Greek comb. Terracotta-style plaster, signed on the young DANTAN shower stand, dated 1867. Jean Pierre DANTAN, said DANTAN young, French sculptor (1800-1869), brother of sculptor ALDANTAN, he was trained in Fine Arts from 1823, and was the student of FJBOSIO. He produced many small busts of 20 to 60 cms, edited in plaster or bronze, which he marketed in a room in the Passage des Panoramas known as the "DANTAN museum" (cf. Illustration, 1857). His portraits-charges representing celebrities of politics, the arts and letters will be a great success. We find them in many museums in France and abroad, and inspired his contemporary Honoré Daumier who will portray the political world. He had as a pupil Deloye and Prosper d'Epinay.
