THE FULL STORY
Rolex introduced the reference 5512 in 1959 and ended production of this model in 1978. The 5512 is time only, giving the dial a symmetry and balance that is one of the many reasons why many watch enthusiasts enjoy these. At a quick glance the reference 5512 looks almost identical to the reference 5513, however the 5512 was fitted with a chronometer-certified movement whereas the 5513 was not. The caliber 1570 that was used in the 5512’s underwent timing tests conducted by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), a Swiss company that certifies accuracy of movements after passing their specifications. This subsequently made the 5512 a bit more expensive than the 5513 as well. The 5512 also featured four lines of text, stating this certification on the third and fourth lines at the bottom of the dial.
