"Born in Lyon in 1901, Benjamin Sarraillon, after having followed the courses of the School of Fine Arts of this city, settled in Algeria in 1924 with his wife. He moved to Algiers and opened a drawing studio there. The following year he was lucky enough to be introduced to the great orientalist painter Etienne Dinet, who was interested in his works and who advised him. He also owed his progress to wise advice from his new master, the Flemish portrait painter and sculptor Jules Van Biesbroeck, of whom he was a pupil for four years and who marked him deeply. It was in Algiers that he had his first exhibition in 1932 Encouraged by critics who recognized his talent, he exhibited regularly every year until 1962. At the independence of Algeria he left this land of Africa which had inspired him so much. He continued his work with courage. Provence replaced the plains. Algiers He died on February 25, 1989 and was buried in Cassis. ''
