""angel Arquebusier", School Of Cuzco, 19th Century."
Oil on canvas depicting an "Arquebusier Angel", belonging to the Cuzco school dating from the first half of the 19th century. Private collection. In good condition. Dimensions: h.90 cm x l.65 cm. The school of Cuzco (escuela cusqueña) is a Catholic artistic movement that developed in the Viceroyalty of Peru during the 16th and 18th centuries, and in particular in Cuzco (former capital of the Inca Empire), but also in other Andean cities in Bolivia and Ecuador. The style of the Cuzco school is located at the confluence of baroque influences brought by the Spanish conquerors and indigenous and mestizo artistic traditions. It is characterized by the use, even the abuse of bright colors and gold, of which our painting is a fine testimony.
