She was born in Szeged, Hungary in 1897 and studied in her native country under the tutelage of Kukan Geza. In 1924, the artist began to exhibit his paintings at the Mucsarnok salon in Budapest, mainly female nudes. Critics note that in her creative work Szantho was first influenced by Hungarian artists Lotz and Benczur, but later developed her own original style.
