Oil on canvas signed Fleury Chenu lower left, snowy landscape (children walking in the cottage) 81 X 72 cm / 56.5 cm X 46.5 cm Augustin Pierre Bienvenu Chenu, known as Fleury Chenu, is a French painter born on May 12, 1833 in Briançon and died on May 6, 1875 in Lyon1. It is known for its snow-covered landscapes and its place in the history of 19th century Lyon art. Chenu was born in Briançon to a father, a master tailor in the 6th line regiment2. His family is not from a very artistic background. He spent the first years of his childhood in this city, which inspired him for his numerous paintings of rural and desert landscapes. His family moved to Lyon in 1846, he then entered the École des beaux-arts de Lyon where he received drawing and painting lessons from Professor Louis Guy, but also from Michel-Philibert Genod (1796-1862) and Claude Bonnefond.
