View of the Ile de la Cité and Notre Dame de Paris
Oil on canvas 45 x 100 cm
Annoted and signed lower left: The city 6h in the morning Helleu?
Annotation on the frame: Jean Helleu
Son of Paul César Helleu, Jean Helleu had the navies as his favorite subject and represented Deauville, Honfleur, Dieppe and Cotentin.
He admired the work of Johan Jongkind.
Our painting, probably dating from the 1930s, could be by his hand. The Ile de la Cité is represented here on a large flat of gray tones. The forms and Notre Dame are as sketched.
