"Miniature On Ivory Nineteenth Signed Stieler Brass Frame"
Superb and elegant cut on ivory from the end of the 19th century. It represents a young woman of great elegance dressed in an embroidered evening dress and carrying a fur coat over the shoulder. The young woman with blue eyes is drawn with great finesse, all the details are present and the expression on her face makes her radiant. High quality work in excellent condition presented in an original frame in geometric brass marquetry inlaid in a noici wood. Signed on the side STIELER. Born in Mainz in a family of engravers, Stieler received artistic training from his father August Friedrich Stieler (1736-1789). He started out as a painter of miniatures. His style in portraiture was especially formed during his stay in the Parisian studio of François Gerard, a pupil of Jacques-Louis David. Slight oréole at the top left barely visible.
