"Pair Of Bronze Bas-reliefs Day And Night, Edward William Wyon Nineteenth Century"
Two marble plaques on which have been placed bronze cartridges containing bas-reliefs made with precision and thoroughness. One represents an allegory of the Night. Dressed in an antique tunic, the young woman with bat wings is accompanied by a cupid in a starry setting. On the other, it is the allegory of the Day which is represented. The young woman with angel wings this time, is also dressed in an antique tunic and accompanied by a cupid in a bright setting. At the back of these two plaques, bronze medals have been inserted on which we can read "Arts and Commerce promoted" around the bust profiles of Athena and Hermes. One can also read there the signature of the artist "W Wyon" for Edward William Wyon, English artist of the second half of the XIXth century having carried out many medals and bas-reliefs in the antique striking by their delicacy of realization.
