He completed an apprenticeship in carpentry, an area which became his first profession. In 1903, he joined the sculpture workshop of Mercié at the National School of Fine Arts and obtained rapid success, as evidenced by the purchases of the state and the rewards obtained in the Salons. A multi-talented artist, he successfully practiced sculpture, ceramics, painting and engraving where he excelled.
