Portrait of Maurice Van der Vliet aged two
Charcoal, pastel and heightened with white chalk on paper
Dedicated, signed and dated in the middle to right à mon ami Mr Van der Vliet / Amaury-Duval / 1849
44 x 34 cm
Frame in waxed oak
Note: the painter's sister, Emma-Marie Duval, was the wife of Mr Guyet-Desfontaines, actor then deputy for Vendée. He received in his hotel in the rue d'Anjou then in his house in Marly a company of artists including, among many others, Amaury-Duval (his brother-in-law) and Alfred Van der Vliet (Ghent, 1817 - Paris, 1896). They formed a theater group devoted to comedy. Alfred Van der Vliet had married Laure du Veyrier Mélesville and lived in Marly at n ° 46 de la Grande Rue. Our drawing represents the portrait of their son, Maurice Emmanuel Honoré Van der Vliet, then two years old.
