Hélène Martin (1912-2012) Village in Spain, circa 1950, oil on canvas, 38x55 cm, signed lower left, annotated on back. Oak frame from 1940.Hélène Martin, an artist from Marseilles, joined the Péano group around 1945 and took part in the workshops of the Union Nationale des Arts Plastiques with Seyssaud and Max Papart. Around 1950, she painted landscapes of Marseille and the Var with angular shapes and contrasting colours, always rich in material, influenced by Chabaud. A complete artist, she explored different techniques in the 1960s, ceramics, sculpture and assemblages. Little by little, she moved towards a so-called "singular" art. A friend of César, she participated in numerous exhibitions. A documentary made for Arte was devoted to her in 2008.
