Painting mounted on panel, 38x55 cm. Frame in wood and gilded stucco, 52.5x69 cm. Jean-René Nys, born March 29, 1907 in Tourcoing, son and grandson of a painter and decorator. From the age of 9, he attended the School of Fine Arts. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Français in 1929 where he had his first personal exhibition in 1930. Subsequently, he obtained numerous distinctions for his work in painting and drawing ornaments. He was a decorator at the municipal theater then appointed professor at the School of Fine Arts where he taught imitation on wood and marble, and the execution of letters until 1968. He also provides graphic arts courses to students of artistic sections and building designs. He died in 1972.
