First edition of the French translation of the Grapes of Wrath which will not appear under this title until five years later in 1947.

This first translation of one of the major works of American literature was published in occupied Belgium with the approval of Nazi censorship as part of anti-American propaganda.

At the same time, this work, which denounces the misery of the peasant world during the Great Depression, was considered by the American authorities as a pamphlet, even a communist propaganda tool.
