He is the son of Germain Gissey, sculptor, and Marie Tremblay, daughter of the sculptor of King Barthélemy Tremblay. In 1651 at the Palais Royal, Henri de Gissey designed the costumes for the ballet “Les Fêtes de Bacchus”. In 1661 he became a designer for the King's Cabinet and produced ballet costumes for court performances. Auspicious times, the 17th and 18th centuries saw the development and then assert themselves of the court ballet and the opera ballet. Initiated during the Renaissance, these balls then ballets when they leave the stage will be markers of the wealth of their sponsors. Nothing is left to chance, everything must be pomp and magnificence. This richness is particularly reflected in the costume, which we will see was more often aesthetic than practical.
