PANCKOUCKE - Studies and dissertations on Tacitus. Paris, Panckoucke, 1842; in-4, 70 pp. + 15 pp. + 25 colored period plates, 20th century binding, half-parchment, smooth spine. Charles-Joseph Panckoucke, printer, bookseller and literator, born in Lille in 1736, died in 1798, settled in Paris at the age of 28. He undertook operations which made his house famous throughout Europe, exerting a great influence in the intellectual circles of his time. Became editor of the Mercure de France, he published the index of the Encyclopedia the famous Encyclopédie methodique in 166 volumes. In 1789 he created the Moniteur Universel, which later became the official government bulletin. He also published the Encyclopedic and Methodical Table of the Three Kingdoms of Nature. Good condition.
