PORTAL - Observations on the nature and on the treatment of rabies, followed by a historical & critical summary of the various remedies which have hitherto been employed against this disease. Yverdon and Paris, Chez Didot and Méquignon, 1780; in-12, XIV-204 pp., half-calf binding, smooth spine, marbled edges, (a fragile bit). Mr. Portal was the consultant doctor of Monsieur (the king's brother), reader and professor of medicine at the Royal College of France; the Academy of Sciences, the Bologna Institute, and the Harlem, Montpellier and Edinburgh Science Societies; assistant professor and survivor of anatomy and surgery at the King's Garden. Portal was one of the founders of the Academy of Medicine. Second edition.
