Member of an old Breton family, Colin de La Biochaye (1750 - 1813) devotes himself entirely to his passion for painting from 1785, when he sold the office inherited from his father as President of Requests to the Parliament of Brittany. Due to his belonging to the nobility of dress and the non-commercial practice of his art, he finds his place among amateur painters. His work is very varied, he devotes himself to still life, to the landscape, to the genre scene and to history painting with 'The Protective Government of the Arts brought back by Peace', kept at the Departmental Archives of Rennes .
