Émilie Charmy (1878/1974) Born Émilie Espérance Barret in St Étienne at the age of 20, she moved to Lyon and learned painting from Jacques Martin because the school of fine arts was inaccessible to women at that time. In 1903 she exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants then at the Salon d'Automne. She married Georges Bouche painter Lyonnais. She exhibited at the Salon des Femmes Artistes Modernes, during the war she retired to Auvergne where her husband died. At the liberation she returned to Paris where she exhibited in various galleries. She died in 1974. Length 64 / width 38 cm Oval Oil on cardboard
