Object description :

"Old Zerbiya Carpet, Rabat, Morocco, 142 Cm X 290 Cm, Mid-19th Century, Extremely Rare"
ZERBIYA CARPET, MOROCCO, RABAT, MID XIXth CENTURY Knotted wool and symmetrical knots.
Rare Moroccan carpet. Central field with double mihrab bordered by five borders with geometric patterns and oriental-inspired flowers.
# Rural art is mainly practiced by Berber artisans who are daily confronted with problems directly linked to nature with which they have an immediate and complex relationship.
They express their close contact with nature through the creation of rugs that turn out to be beautiful spontaneous masterpieces.
In addition, rural rugs represent an important repertoire of individual experiences and shared knowledge about the physical reality of nature.
# Urban art is rather based on symmetrical geometries which give birth to forms which are repeated endlessly.
They generally take the form of medallions whose center evokes "Al Kaaba" (the tomb of the prophet).
The lines on a carpet, for example, suggest the ebb and flow of Muslims who engage in orderly and rhythmic processions invoking God.
Floral patterns, leaves, plants remind Muslims of the promised life in paradise after death.
These various decorative elements emerge from Islamic art and beautifully enliven the surface of Moroccan rugs.
Eighteen colors make up this wonder. Slight wear, old restorations.
