Very good condition, small lack of welding to a salt cellar, traces of oxidation in the salt cellars.

Pair of large oval trencher salt made up of a salt cellar set in a base. Under an oval molded border, the ogee plinth is extended by rolled up and asymmetrical volutes to form four feet. The lid of stylized and hinged shells covers the salt cellar.

This very beautiful model of salt derives from the Parisian model, but differs from it by an assumed rococo style, a local interpretation of the ornaments of a Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier. If the Arles goldsmith's work is particularly rare, we know of this master, a few pieces: a beaker engraved with a rococo decoration, a sugar pot, a chocolate pot, a suger spoon ... These trencher salt seem to be, to our knowledge, the only ones listed from this town.

Guillaume Brunet, master silversmith from Arles did his apprenticeship in Arles with his grandfather Guillaume Igonnet in 1734, to continue from 1740 to 1742 with the master Jacques Paulmyer. Companion, he worked with his uncle Sébastien Igonnet in Paris, then in Beaune with Louis Reynier. He became master in 1751 with the realization of his masterpiece, a stewing spoon; he deposited his small punch in Aix in 1758, then in 1761, he punched for Geneviève Nantet, widow of his former master, we lose his trace thereafter, but produced at least until 1774. Among the few works from Arles listed, we know some pieces of this master, two beakers including one engraved [2, n ° 62], a sugar pot from 1765 [2, n ° 63] a chocolate pot from 1766 [2, n ° 64] and a basting spoon [2, no. 65].
