'' A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY ''.
Rare large Bowl bowl with “giraffe” decoration, it is ZARAFA with its Nubian keeper “Atir”. Earthenware from: Nevers or Auxerre.
Period: first part of the 19th century.
This decor is inspired by the giraffe offered to Charles X by Méhémet Ali.
Called Zarafa, she arrived in Marseille on November 14, 1826, crossed France in three weeks, she lived for 18 years in the menagerie of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris.
This dish has a nice old restoration with staples (it's very solid) there is also an enamel jump in the decoration at the level of a giraffe's paw and some chips on the edges of the dish (see detailed photos) .
I had planned to have the front face restored, but after reflection I'll leave it to you (the price depends on).
