Mainly landscape painter, referenced as belonging to the Barbizon school, Adrien Jacques Sauzay was born in Paris in 1841 and died in 1928. He was a pupil by the Italian painter Alberto Pasini who introduced him to landscape painting.
From 1863 he took part in the Paris salons where his talent was quickly rewarded with several medals. It is also found at the Universal Exhibitions in Paris.
In our painting, the delicate and precise touch sublimates the mirror effects of mirrored water, and a few fine lines are enough to bring the herbs of the pond to life. The extreme calm of the scene obliges the softness of the gaze…
In addition to his undeniable mastery in the art of the landscape, we also owe this painter, unfairly too little known, some magnificent portraits and interior scenes.
