Joseph Trévoux is a French painter, born in 1831 in Lyon and died in 1909 in the same city.
Called a naturalist long before the movement was recognized, Trévoux was above all a synthetist of nature. He began his career as a landscaper at Louis Janmot's studio and rubbed shoulders with other artists such as Paul Borel, Irenée Richard, Gabriel Ranvier, Matheus Fournereau, with whom he would befriend.
A travel enthusiast and very prey to the artistic emotion provoked by natural landscapes, Trévoux spends a large part of his life traveling, going on excursions and walks to paint, without even worrying about money.
