Beautiful French pointillist view from the beginning of the 20th century of a town on the hillside, oil on canvas by Victor Charreton. Excellent quality and condition example of the artist's work typical of his Pointillist period following the influence of the first impressionist movement. Signed, unframed. Victor Charreton was a French painter who carried on the legacy of the Impressionists with his depictions of the countryside. Combining varied passages of thick and fine paint, Charreton captured the transparency of light in varying weather conditions. Born March 2, 1864 in Bourgoin-Jallieu, France, he studied law in Paris and practiced as a lawyer for many years before devoting himself entirely to painting in 1902. In the decades that followed, Charreton traveled frequently to across France and North Africa. , during which he produced a number of atmospheric winter scenes. He was notably a professor at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1919 to 1925. The artist died on November 26, 1936 in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Today, Charreton's works are held in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum, among others. Dimensions: 72cm x 52cm approximately framed
