This oil on canvas, treated in grisaille, is the work of a French school of the 19th century.
It was painted by a follower of Jean-Baptiste Pillement (1728-1808). The latter had, among other things, the characteristic of producing scenes decorated with characters and decorative elements in the Chinese style.
The charming scene shows characters in nature where you can guess the blast of the wind. A duo in the foreground shows us two men seated in the middle of a discussion, one smoking and the other looking at him while pointing a finger. The other duo, in motion, portray the two characters in a race that the flight of their kite requires. Below, a human form gesticulates with its wide open arms.
This scene is well defined with a tree on the left, the stone on the right and the sky in the background, elements around which the characters are articulated.
This painting is on its original canvas (relaxed and pleated).
Has a golden frame.
