"André-eugène Costilhes (1865-1940) Little Shepherd Shepherd In The Hat Oil On Canvas"
Study full of charm representing the portrait of a young shepherd with his cane and his hat covered with a rustic cape, thick and well covering to face the often harsh climate of the mountains of Auvergne. Indeed, the artist from Cunlhat, a small town in Puy-de-Dôme, liked to paint on the motif in the open air, especially in this region (and many others ...) that he was so fond of. Thanks to his remarkable gifts for drawing, his stubbornness as well as the support of the mayor of his town, he moved to Paris at the age of eighteen, brilliantly succeeded in Fine Arts and became a decorator, drawing teacher and recognized artist-painter. Throughout his existence, he participated in many artistic fairs; it is referenced in Bénézit. Our work, put under glass, was made in oil on a tight-grained canvas with on the reverse a colorful decoration essay at the hinge of Art Nouveau and Art Deco (see photo). It is mounted in a beautiful old rod of light wood protected by a frosted glass which maintains it while enhancing it. Signed with the artist's stamp on the lower left and again on the back of the canvas (see photo). Dimensions: At sight: 38 cm x 19.5 cm Frame: 47 cm x 28.5 cm Good condition, as you see it ...
