Bronze medallion representing a portrait in low relief of Jean-Baptiste Kléber by sculptor Pierre Jean David d'Angers (1788-1856) Medallion diameter: 7 cm Frame dimensions: 13.5 x 13.5 cm Pierre-Jean David, dit David d'Angers, born in Angers on March 12, 1788 and died in Paris on January 6, 1856, is a French sculptor and medalist, representative of Romanticism in 19th century French sculpture. He produced a number of monuments, tombs, statues, busts, and bas-reliefs, including the famous pediment of the Pantheon in Paris in 1837. In the 1830s, he sculpted a large series of medallion portraits of contemporary personalities in which he applied the principles of phrenology at an aesthetic level.
