One of the pioneers of animal sculpture, Pierre-Jules Mêne began working for his father, a metal turner.
Very early on attracted by sculpture, he spent a long time in the Jardin des Plantes making sketches.
It was not until 1938 that he made his debut at the Salon.
Specializing in small-size bronzes, Pierre-Jules Mêne sets up his own foundry and takes care of the casting and chasing himself.
Unanimously recognized for the perfection of his productions, he is one of the leaders of the French Animal School.
